Review: Shiseido Pureness Blemish Targeting Gel (Best pimple treatment)

Handbag must-haves for oily/acne prone skin

Does this happen to you? It's the middle of the day, I blot my face and discover one or two red bumps. Shocking! I swear they were not there in the morning when I spent more time than I would ever admit on my 10 step super duper Korean skin care regimen. I sigh in desperation because while at work,  there is nothing I can do to stop the bumps from becoming  big pimples by the evening.

That scenario changed for me last month when I bought Shiseido Blemish Targeting Gel from the Pureness line.  I am so impressed with this product that I decided to include it in the Handbag must-haves for oily/acne prone skin. First of all, the trick is in the application.

  1. I use it only on individual, solitary pimples.
  2. I squirt out  a tiny blob  and apply the gel blob on top of the pimple without rubbing it in. Then I squirt another blob and apply it on top of  the next pimple and so on. I simply place a gel blob on top of a pimple and repeat the same for the other pimples. Upon application, sensation is felt, but it subsides before I can figure out if it is tingling or stinging.
  3. I reapply the gel in the same manner throughout the day OVER MY MAKE UP.  Yes, that's the amazing part that I love the most. I give it a few minutes (1-2min at the most) to dry and I am good to go. And it does not change the colour of my make up at all. Update 15/02/17 Depends on the make up. I've tried it over several different powders and  liquid make up. When applied over make up, a bit of touch up may be needed depending on your make up. It will be trial and error for you just as it is with me. But I still adore this product. Although my skin has been so very clear for the past few weeks I've hardly used it. ( For clear skin see my blog on the supplements I take)
  4. I reapply the gel every 2-3 hours  during the day over my make up and in one day or three days at the most the pimples are gone.

I've experienced no flakiness or dryness from the gel. I've used it for a month so I've tried it on pimples of various size....From the big red ones I get from eating dairy, to the tiny whiteheads I get around my mouth area after my period. Some of the bigger pimples took three days to heal completely, but from day one they were getting smaller. The tiny post period pimples are usually small, but persistent and after one is gone, another would come out in a different place. I was so surprised and relieved to see  how well this gel helped with those. Amazing! The gel is not expensive, I bought it for £10 on eBay and I highly recommend it if you want to treat individual break outs that you get only now and then. I hope this review was helpful to you.

Update 15/02/17 I have an interesting observation to share with you. I had a smallish pimple coming up on my cheek and I did not worry as I knew it will get healed in no time with this gel. However I had just received Ginseng oil to try. I applied it a couple of times and I loved the warming sensation it gave, it energised and stimulated my skin. I could feel it. But that pimple did not like the Ginseng oil...Instead of getting smaller, it grew bigger in spite of the use of the Shiseido gel...

Around the same time I was watching a Korean drama in which the king was very sick. He was given Ginseng tonic but that made matters worse. His fever worsened drastically. The Royal family were furious but the doctors pleaded with them saying  that through the tonic, the body is given the energy to fight and that the Ginseng tonic should not be stopped. In the end, it was decided to continue with the tonic and to everyone's relief the king recovered.

I think that Ginseng stimulates the skin, which is great. But I wouldn't use Ginseng oil  over a pimple again. Interestingly enough there is Ginseng in the Sulwhasoo renewing cream and that is said to help with blemishes.

Update 30/06/17 My face has been clear for many months now, but I use the gel for occasional breakouts on my shoulders and it works wonders ( where the cross body bag rests on my shoulder, my skin gets red and irritated, occasionally I get pimples in that area) I still consider this gel my most favourite, most effective pimple treatment. I still carry one in my handbag and keep another at home. When I run out, I will definitely repurchase- it works that well. I've recommended it to several friends and they also love using it.

If you have questions about the blemish targeting gel leave a comment below. If you know of another similar product worthy of being included in the Handbag must-haves for oily acne prone skin, let me know.

Did I like using Manyo Factory Galactomyces niacin?

No. I will not repurchase Manyo Factory Galactomycesniacin again.

UPDATE:31/08/17 It has been 7 months since I wrote this post and in that time I've learnt that Niacin is a very well researched skin loving ingredient. I will be purchasing products containing Niacin :-) and hoping it will "shrink" my pores.

UPDATE:28/11/2017 As mentioned in my previous update, I wanted to try a Niacin product and I chose Dr.Troub Skin Returning Niaten serum with 10% Niacinamide. I've been using it for 2 weeks now and so far so good. I think my pores look more refined, but it could be my wishful thinking that is tricking my eyes. Sadly, this product is only 30ml and at almost £20, I would not be repurchasing it. I hear that The Ordinary have a nice Niacinamide serum and cheaper.

Observations about applying the product and how it felt on the skin

Applying it (Manyo Factory Galactomycesniacin) felt like applying water. No scent, no colour,…

Best calming cream for acne prone skin- Sulwhasoo Herblinic EX Restorative Ampoules review

I first heard about the Sulwhasoo range from one of my favourite Youtubers- Lili. Her blog title is I am a beauty junky and that is also the name of her YouTube channel. I don't remember her reviewing the Herblinic EX Restorative Ampoules but when I researched several Sulwhasoo products she talked about, I found a couple of reviews on Herblinic and was intrigued enough to order samples from Ebay.  I bought 30 samples and they lasted me 15 days ( using them day and night).

From the very first application, my skin was nourished like never before. I could tell that this was one amazing product.

This honey like cream/serum is apparently packed with medicinal herbs which are said to  help nourish and  repair damaged skin. It smells herby and to me that scent is calming. It looks like honey but it spreads easily and little goes a long way. The application can be a bit sticky, but I don't mind that. One sample is enough for my face and neck.

After I used the first 30 samples, my skin…

Review: Cosrx BHA Blackhead power liquid and AHA whitehead power liquid

Update 6th July 2017: The post you will read below was written in January 2017. At the time my experience with Cosrx BHA and AHA was not positive. But months later, I went back to trying these products with great results. To read my updates click on this link and that will take you to my post "Using the previously disliked Cosrx BHA Blackhead Power Liquid again? " which I published in May 2017.

For years I've been using Skin Doctors Gamma hydroxy cream and I've been pretty happy with it. It is a skin resurfacing cream containing both AHAs (glycolic and lactic acid) and BHA (salicylic acid). It keeps my oily acne prone skin  free form congestion and pimples. There are only two things I don't like about this cream- the price and how "oily" it feels on the skin.

I read several positive reviews of Cosrx BHA Blackhead Power Liquid and AHA7 Whitehead Power Liquid and wanted to try them. I thought that if I could transition to using them instead of the Skin Do…
