What do I have in common with Oprah Winfrey or why after months of clear skin I am breaking out again?

Oprah Winfrey and I have something in common. I remember her saying that after she wrote her book on dieting, she managed to put on weight again and had to go back to her book to see how she lost weight then....So I found myself in a similar situation. I had clear skin for months and wrote about it, but then in the past two weeks I've had break outs that I couldn't understand. I used my lovely Shiseido spot targeting gel, but the inflammations were too persistent and this brilliant gel didn't help much. I was clearing one spot with the gel, but another one would come up and then another...Sigh....

At first I blamed it on Easter. Did I have a bit too much chocolate? I don't think so. Only two large chocolate eggs. Surely that's not too much? Did I have too many hot cross buns?? Yes... perhaps.

Then I blamed it on the new supplements that I was taking. One of them was Resveratrol which detoxifies the liver ( amongst other things). Liver detoxifiers can give headaches and/or skin rashes.

And then I came across a quote by a dermatologist where he said that Salicylic acid cleans the pores but does not get rid of bacteria.
After that I came across this information from www.WebMD.com

Salicylic acid. On the skin, salicylic acid helps to correct the abnormal shedding of cells. For milder acne, salicylic acid helps unclog pores to resolve and prevent lesions. It does not have any effect on sebum production and does not kill bacteria. It must be used continuously, just like benzoyl peroxide, because its effects stop when you stop using it -- pores clog up again and the acne returns. Salicylic acid is available in many acne products, including lotions, creams, and pads.

This made me think about my current skincare....

Sulwhasoo cleansing oil
The History of Whoo foaming cleanser
Shiseido Pureness softener
Skin Doctors Gamma hydroxy
Tosowong Osory oil emultion
Sulwhasoo Herblinic ampoules
Sulwhasoo Harmonizen cream
Sulwhasoo Ginseng renewing eye cream

Of all these products, the Shiseido toner/softener and the Gamma hydroxy cream are the only ones that clean the pores and resurface the skin. OK, so the Osory oil emulsion is supposed to help "troubled" skin as well. Everything else is actually anti-aging, anti-wrinkle, hydrating, soothing and nourishing.

But I am not using anything to fight acne bacteria! Not one product!

Then I did the Oprah Winfrey thing and I looked back at what products I was using in previous months when my skin was beautifully clear. So, no wonder my skin was clear,  I had not one but several products aimed to get rid of acne bacteria and take care of deep cleansing and purifying the pores.

From the Body shop I had a Tea tree oil toner, Tea tree oil mask, Tea tree oil serum, It's skin pore care, Manyo factory Galactomyces  with niacin. Also, for months I used my beloved Shiseido deep cleansing foam.  Funnily enough,  I didn't write very positive reviews for most of these products....But perhaps they did a brilliant job of keeping my skin clear.

So, I quickly ordered a Tea tree cream from eBay and within 2-3 days of using it- my skin is clear again.

I am waiting for more Tea tree oil products to come from eBay. And then I will do an experiment. You may remember that Cosrx BHA for blackheads gave me horrible breakouts and I've not used it since. The same happened with Cosrx AHA. Well, I feel adventurous and want to try this new found understanding that fighting acne bacteria must go hand in hand with the kind of deep cleaning of the pores which the BHA does. So, I will try the Cosrx products again but this time in conjunction with tons of Tea tree oil products. I will let you know how it goes....

Galactomyces & Bifidalacto Complex products+ Several UPDATES

Did I like using Manyo Factory Galactomyces niacin?

No. I will not repurchase Manyo Factory Galactomycesniacin again.

UPDATE:31/08/17 It has been 7 months since I wrote this post and in that time I've learnt that Niacin is a very well researched skin loving ingredient. I will be purchasing products containing Niacin :-) and hoping it will "shrink" my pores.

UPDATE:28/11/2017 As mentioned in my previous update, I wanted to try a Niacin product and I chose Dr.Troub Skin Returning Niaten serum with 10% Niacinamide. I've been using it for 2 weeks now and so far so good. I think my pores look more refined, but it could be my wishful thinking that is tricking my eyes. Sadly, this product is only 30ml and at almost £20, I would not be repurchasing it. I hear that The Ordinary have a nice Niacinamide serum and cheaper.

Observations about applying the product and how it felt on the skin

Applying it (Manyo Factory Galactomycesniacin) felt like applying water. No scent, no colour,…

Best calming cream for acne prone skin- Sulwhasoo Herblinic EX Restorative Ampoules review

I first heard about the Sulwhasoo range from one of my favourite Youtubers- Lili. Her blog title is I am a beauty junky and that is also the name of her YouTube channel. I don't remember her reviewing the Herblinic EX Restorative Ampoules but when I researched several Sulwhasoo products she talked about, I found a couple of reviews on Herblinic and was intrigued enough to order samples from Ebay.  I bought 30 samples and they lasted me 15 days ( using them day and night).

From the very first application, my skin was nourished like never before. I could tell that this was one amazing product.

This honey like cream/serum is apparently packed with medicinal herbs which are said to  help nourish and  repair damaged skin. It smells herby and to me that scent is calming. It looks like honey but it spreads easily and little goes a long way. The application can be a bit sticky, but I don't mind that. One sample is enough for my face and neck.

After I used the first 30 samples, my skin…

Review: Naruko Tea tree shine control & blemish clear night gelly

As I am writing this blog post, I glance at the empty tub of the Naruko Tea tree night gelly ( that is the actual spelling on the tub)  I can't bare to throw it away yet. I absolutely loved using it.

But before I tell you anything else about this product, I must tell you this:  This was the best smelling skin care product I have ever used. I bet you are surprised. After all it is called a Tea tree night gelly and as we know tea tree doesn't smell nice at all. But this product does not smell of tea tree oil. Ok, may be there is just a hint of tea tree, but a nice smelling one. To be precise, the gelly smells like a fresh spring morning: crisp and cool, delicately scented as snowdrops  and with a gentle hint of mint. That's why I can't bare to throw away the empty tub yet, I keep on sniffing it...

The gelly applies smoothly and it feels very cool on the skin.  I didn't like that at first because I prefer skin care products that feel warm or at least not cool. But I go…
