Review: Manyo Factory Active Refresh Herb Special Treatment Oil

Here is a super gentle herbal complex oil for oily/acne prone skin by the Korean brand Manyo Factory

I will most likely not repurchase this wonderfully gentle oil for two reasons- the price £18 for 15 ml is just too high. The second reason- it didn't feel very potent for my oily skin. But if you are considering buying this oil for yourself, read up and you might come to the conclusion that it is worth trying it after all :-)

First of all let us look at the price. Why do I think that £18 for 15ml is too expensive?

To be honest this oil is not going to seem expensive if you apply it only on a few blemishes at a time in order to speed up the healing process. If you do that, I am sure that this oil will last a long time and the price will seem just fine.

But in my case, the oil turned out to be very expensive because I used it up too quickly. Yes, I am heavy handed, I use a lot of product... But the other reason is that I didn't have any blemishes to apply this oil to, so I used it all over my face, the way I use any serum. I was hoping that this oil will prevent future blemishes. So you can see why I finished it quickly and why I considered it expensive.

Now let us look at why I did not find it potent. The main reason is that the scent of this oil was super gentle. Nothing wrong with that :-) In fact, most people prefer no scent or just a gentle scent. But not me. I love scented skin care :-)

Back to how potent this product is. I will say it again, It didn't seem potent to me because of the gentle scent. In my mind, I associate strong scented  products with stronger potency. All of us know how strong the Tea tree oil scent is, but this product smelled herby and not at all tea tree like.

In previous posts about Tea tree oil products I complained about the strong and not pleasant scent of Tea tree oil, now I complain that the scent was not strong enough. There is no pleasing me. But the problem is that in my mind there is a correlation between scent and potency. If you think that I am wrong about this, leave me a comment.

Another thing to bare in mind is that I actually had no pimples to try this oil on. My skin was clear and for the duration of using this product - it remained clear. So I cannot comment on how effective it is in speeding up the healing process of blemishes.

In other words, if you have super sensitive, reactive, gentle skin - this product my be worth trying. As you will see below, the ingredient list is pretty impressive.

Ingredients: Squalane, Isoamyl Laurate, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Calophyllum Tacamahaca Seed Oil, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Pogostemon Cablin Oil, Juniperus Communis Fruit Oil, Calendula Officinalis Flower Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil, Camellia Sinensis Seed Oil, Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Oil, Salvia Officinalis (Sage) Oil, Tocopherol.

The  full name of the product is Active Refresh Herb Special Treatment Oil. It comes in a tiny green bottle with a dropper.

I bought  this product from eBay for £18 and the description read:

" Active Refresh Herb Special Treatment oil is a special Herbal complex that soothes irritated skin, intensively nourishes, moisturizes and refreshes, controls the sebaceous glands and restores a clean healthy skin glow. "

Yes it was wonderfully nourishing, moisturizing and soothing. But these days it is hard to come by a Korean product that doesn't provide these benefits. All Korean products I try are of such high quality.

Because I didn't use the product for very long I can't say that it controlled the sebaceous glands. And God knows my sebaceous glands need a lot of help...

I hope this review was helpful to you.

Galactomyces & Bifidalacto Complex products+ Several UPDATES

Did I like using Manyo Factory Galactomyces niacin?

No. I will not repurchase Manyo Factory Galactomycesniacin again.

UPDATE:31/08/17 It has been 7 months since I wrote this post and in that time I've learnt that Niacin is a very well researched skin loving ingredient. I will be purchasing products containing Niacin :-) and hoping it will "shrink" my pores.

UPDATE:28/11/2017 As mentioned in my previous update, I wanted to try a Niacin product and I chose Dr.Troub Skin Returning Niaten serum with 10% Niacinamide. I've been using it for 2 weeks now and so far so good. I think my pores look more refined, but it could be my wishful thinking that is tricking my eyes. Sadly, this product is only 30ml and at almost £20, I would not be repurchasing it. I hear that The Ordinary have a nice Niacinamide serum and cheaper.

Observations about applying the product and how it felt on the skin

Applying it (Manyo Factory Galactomycesniacin) felt like applying water. No scent, no colour,…

Best calming cream for acne prone skin- Sulwhasoo Herblinic EX Restorative Ampoules review

I first heard about the Sulwhasoo range from one of my favourite Youtubers- Lili. Her blog title is I am a beauty junky and that is also the name of her YouTube channel. I don't remember her reviewing the Herblinic EX Restorative Ampoules but when I researched several Sulwhasoo products she talked about, I found a couple of reviews on Herblinic and was intrigued enough to order samples from Ebay.  I bought 30 samples and they lasted me 15 days ( using them day and night).

From the very first application, my skin was nourished like never before. I could tell that this was one amazing product.

This honey like cream/serum is apparently packed with medicinal herbs which are said to  help nourish and  repair damaged skin. It smells herby and to me that scent is calming. It looks like honey but it spreads easily and little goes a long way. The application can be a bit sticky, but I don't mind that. One sample is enough for my face and neck.

After I used the first 30 samples, my skin…

Review: Cosrx BHA Blackhead power liquid and AHA whitehead power liquid

Update 6th July 2017: The post you will read below was written in January 2017. At the time my experience with Cosrx BHA and AHA was not positive. But months later, I went back to trying these products with great results. To read my updates click on this link and that will take you to my post "Using the previously disliked Cosrx BHA Blackhead Power Liquid again? " which I published in May 2017.

For years I've been using Skin Doctors Gamma hydroxy cream and I've been pretty happy with it. It is a skin resurfacing cream containing both AHAs (glycolic and lactic acid) and BHA (salicylic acid). It keeps my oily acne prone skin  free form congestion and pimples. There are only two things I don't like about this cream- the price and how "oily" it feels on the skin.

I read several positive reviews of Cosrx BHA Blackhead Power Liquid and AHA7 Whitehead Power Liquid and wanted to try them. I thought that if I could transition to using them instead of the Skin Do…
